Promise of a Better Life!

Gloria & Alice
Who are these two adorable little girls? The one on the left is my mom Gloria and on the right her sister Alice. My guess is that mom is around four and Alice about two years of age. I have always adored this photo and it has really got me to thinking about all the family stories I have heard over the years. Stories that will be certainly lost if someone doesn't write them down!
Our family can not trace back to the Mayflower as I am only third generation here but their story is my legacy and that of my children, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and anyone who knew them. One of courage, love, sadness and triumph. Stories and photographs I wish to tell and share with the help of any relative or family friend who would be willing to record them and get involved. Do you feel another book coming???
Since I cherish these stories and old photos what better place to start than with my mom's side of the family. Why that side first you ask? Well I have the most available information and my mom is still alive at the age of 88 as well as her three sisters to help me along. Women in the family always seem to recall the almost forgotten details far better than their male counterparts.

I will create another BLOG for the family journey but will share it with all of you from time to time here on this site. A link will be created from this BLOG so that if you wish to click on over to visit the family site you may do so. I will continue to write and share general information, inspiration and photographs on this blog. I am very excited about this journey and hope my family is also and somehow I just know they are!!! Restoring old photos has become a new hobby. Just love it!!!

How exciting! I'm certain you're just the person to document your family history. The photo is such a treasure! It's beyond adorable that they are dressed exactly alike, down to the haircuts and flowers. Good luck!!

Adorable! I love looking at old family photos as well. It's thought that my family have been here since the 1700s, but we aren't Mayflower folks!

What a wonderful idea Rosemary, and this photograph is just beautiful. How fortunate you are to have these to restore.

Thank you for sharing with us today at The Creative Exchange.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Rosemary, Your new blog venture sounds like a great project. It is so easy for family history to get lost. I have tried to make a point of asking my father and mother to share childhood details and stories. I have never taken the step to right many of these stories down, but hope to one day for my son.

I just discovered your blog today and am quite taken with your stories, photos, and overall talent. In fact, your book is a perfect example of what I would like to do for my family..what started out as a homemade heritage album with photos and clippings, etc. from the early part of my qrandparents' lives at the beginning of the 19th century...still waits for me to finish it or begin over again. I am struck by the beauty of the form of your book and would like to emulate it. My problem is that there is so much information to absorb re: a project of this magnitude, new technologies, and time...but I will see what I can do on a smaller, very amateurish scale. I would appreciate any advise you might care to give to a frustrated beginning writer, photographer, painter, and retired grandmother, trying to pick up where she left off back in the 60's when she missed out on college to raise a family...by blog is a beginning but I hold back because it is scary as well.
I will be following you on your journey if nothing else...

You've answered the question I left on your other blog! What a great idea - I've traced our genealogy for years and am (trying to) start a personal history business to capture stories such as yours for other people. They're treasure, as you obviously know!
