A Hydrangea Kind of Day!

My Mom & niece Jenna
Let me in!!!
Showing proudly!
While visiting my Mom last week I was very glad that I brought my camera for several reasons! It was a bit overcast perfect conditions for photographing and my beloved hydrangea are in full bloom! My sister's yard displays some of the most gorgeous purple hydrangea I have ever seen. She plants the Nikko Blues however her soil is very acidic and turns them various shades of purple!
There are many myths that surround the hydrangea and I do believe this is because there are so many different varieties! It seems that anyone who grows them has different advice on pruning, fertilizing, propagating, etc.
They are extremely popular here in the Northeast and some say that it is the salt air that makes them thrive. Almost every yard on Cape Cod, displays at least one bush of some variety.
Couldn't resist taking Mom's photo along with my niece Jenna. They are both so beautiful and the lovely blooms a perfect compliment!

Just gorgeous! I love them too. They used to be rather abundant in this area but I don't see them too often anymore.

I have 3 bushes myself and I planted them and did nothing and by some miracle they thrive each year. They are such pretty flowers - mine have already bloomed and baked from the sun but it's cool to see you're still enjoying them where you are!

How beautiful, and the hydrangeas aren't bad either!

Those are beautiful! And wow, so many! I planted my first one this year and so far it has not thrived well. One day it pouts (wilts) and the next day it's alert. Very temperamental. It currently has small blooms, so I am not giving up. Thanks for sharing these wonderful pics of the flowers and your family.

Hi Rosemary, I like your multi-generational portrait and your sister's hydrangeas are beautiful. It is too bad that hydrangeas don't make a great cut flower, because they look so perfect in a vase.

As I commented on someone else's post today, flowers around a fence is always great. Hydrangeas are one of my favorites, but we have so little shade that I hesitate to get any.
