The House Of The Seven Gables
"The House of the Seven Gables was built by a Salem sea captain and merchant named John Turner in 1668 and occupied by three generations of the Turner family before being sold to Captain Samuel Ingersoll in 1782. An active captain during the Great Age of Sail, Ingersoll died at sea leaving the property to his daughter Susanna, a cousin of famed author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne's visits to his cousin's home are credited with inspiring the setting and title of his 1851 novel The House of the Seven Gables."~google search~
We took a drive to Salem, Massachusetts, a couple of days ago. Salem is about a two hour drive north of my daughter's home. The last time we visited here, was probably thirty years ago when the children were young. Salem is a very old, well established city, rich in history and folklore.
Above is a glimpse of the house and as you can see the colorful garden, captured my attention. An inspirational place to visit for sure, a walk back into American History, a very proud place to be.
Have a wonderful day! |
